Children’s English Sermon - Advent Week 1
Luke 1:26-38
1. Introduction
Hello, everyone!
Welcome to Sunday School!
What month is it today?
(Wait for their response.)
Yes, we are in November now.
What big event do we have coming up?
(Wait for their response: "Christmas.")
That’s right! We are waiting for the birthday of Jesus.
2. Advent Candles
Look at these candles. Everyone in the world is waiting for Christmas.
We call this season Advent.
Do you know what Advent means? It means "waiting for His coming."
This week is the first week of Advent.
How many candles are lit?
(The answer is one.)
The first candle means hope.
Long ago, many prophets foretold the birth of Jesus.
In today’s Bible story, someone also prophesied about the birth of Jesus.
Shall we dive into the story?
3. The Story of Mary
A long, long time ago, there was a young girl named Mary.
Mary lived in the hills of Israel, and most people didn’t even know she existed.
She was a very ordinary and quiet girl.
Mary was about to get married to a man named Joseph.
But one night, an angel appeared to Mary.
"Mary, you will become pregnant and give birth to a son.
You will name him Jesus."
4. A Shocking Announcement
Then the angel told her something even more amazing:
"He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever.
His kingdom will never end."
The Son of the Most High?
God will give him the throne of David, and he will rule the world forever?
Who is that?
That is the Messiah!
5. Mary’s Concerns
At first, Mary was very surprised, but soon she became worried.
"How can I do something so great?
Am I really going to be the mother of the Messiah?
I’m not even married yet—how can I have a baby?
And how will I explain this to Joseph?"
Mary’s mind was full of questions.
So she asked the angel,
"How will this be, since I am a virgin?"
6. The Angel’s Assurance
The angel replied,
"The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God."
In short, the angel was saying, "It’s not something you will do—God will do it."
There is nothing impossible for God because He is almighty!
7. Mary’s Faith
Mary believed in God’s power.
She trusted that even though she couldn’t do it herself,
God could work through her.
Let’s read today’s verse together.
3, 2, 1!
"I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled."
Luke 1:38
8. Waiting for Jesus
We are waiting for Jesus because we need Him.
Why do we need Jesus? Because there’s something only He can do—He came to save us from our sins.
Jesus is the only one who can fix our broken relationship with God.
That’s why His coming is so important!
This week, let’s think about how much we need Jesus and wait for Him with joyful hearts.
9. Let’s Pray
Heavenly Father,
We are waiting for Christmas.
We know we need Jesus for sure.
He is our Savior.
We want to obey You, just like Mary did.
Even when it’s hard,
We want to trust and obey with faith.
We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
