Hi friends,

Welcome to Sunday School!

Christmas is coming soon—are you excited? Do you know the story about the birth of Jesus? Today, we’re going to travel back in time and remember what happened on the very first Christmas.

The Story of Jesus’ Birth

A long time ago, about 2,000 years ago, there was a Roman ruler named Caesar Augustus. He wanted to count all the people in his kingdom so he could collect taxes. To do this, everyone had to return to their hometown.

Joseph, who lived in Nazareth in Galilee, had to travel to Bethlehem in Judea, the town of King David. Joseph and Mary made this long journey because Joseph was from David’s family.

While they were in Bethlehem, something amazing happened. It was time for Mary to have her baby—her first son! But this was no ordinary baby. This baby was
Jesus, God’s Son, our Savior. However, there was a big problem: there was no room for them at the inn. So Mary laid baby Jesus in a manger, a feeding place for animals.

Shepherds and Angels

That same night, there were shepherds in the fields nearby watching over their sheep. Suddenly, an angel appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone all around them. The shepherds were very afraid, but the angel said, “Don’t be afraid! I bring you good news. Today, in Bethlehem, a Savior has been born. He is Christ the Lord!”

Then, many angels joined in, praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those who please Him!”

The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem to see what the angel had told them. And when they found baby Jesus lying in the manger, they were filled with joy. They praised and thanked God for everything they had seen and heard.

The Good News

This story is so special. Baby Jesus was born in a humble place—a manger for animals—yet angels from heaven and shepherds from the fields came to worship Him. This shows us that Jesus came for everyone, no matter who they are.

The shepherds were poor and slept under the stars, while the angels lived in heaven. But they all praised Jesus together because Jesus is the Savior for everyone!

Do You Have Room for Jesus?

But here’s something important to think about: remember how there was no room for Jesus at the inn? Some people today still don’t have room for Jesus in their hearts. They think Christmas is just about presents, food, or spending time with family.

But Christmas is about Jesus. It’s about celebrating His birth and making room for Him in our hearts. So, do you have room for Jesus in your heart? How can you show Him that you do?

Just like the angels and shepherds praised Jesus 2,000 years ago, we’re going to praise Him today. Let’s celebrate His birth and thank God for sending us our Savior.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus to be our Savior.

He is my King and my Lord, and I want to keep Him in my heart always.

Help me to live for Him and share His love with others.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
