Hi Friends,

Welcome to Sunday School!
Have you ever been really angry?

Today, we’re going to learn about a time when Jesus got very, very angry. But He was angry for a good reason.

Angry with a good reason?
Let’s see what happened!

2.
Let’s read the verse together:
"My strong love for your temple completely controls me." — John 2:17 (ERV)

3.
Jesus was on His way to the temple. He was excited to go there.
What do you do at church on Sunday?
(They may answer: praise, pray, listen to the Bible.)
He was excited to worship God, praise Him, and listen to His Word with His people.

4.
Yes, at church we pray together, sing together, and read the Bible together.
When we worship God, we feel happy, and God is also happy to see us worshiping Him.

5.
A long time ago, the temple looked very different from churches today.
There was a special worship place for men, another for women, and at the edge of the temple, there was a court for foreigners. Even though they weren’t Jews, they could still worship God in this court.
Every place in the temple was meant for worshiping God.

6.
Jesus entered the Gentile’s court.
This was the place for foreigners to worship.
He expected to see many foreign people worshiping God together.

7.
But what’s this?
Animals? Not foreigners?
And a market? Is this a market, not a worship place? There were market stalls and animals for sale. Do you see the sale signs?
It’s unbelievable!
There was no space left for the foreigners to worship God.

8.
Jesus was so angry that He cleared everything out. He said,
"Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!"

In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus also said:
"My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a ‘den of robbers!’"

The church is God’s house.
But you know what?
Jesus Himself became a temple for us. So, when we pray in Jesus’ name, God hears us and answers us, even when we’re not in the church building.

Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father,
We know the church is a place of worship.
We pray, praise, and worship You.
We also know that Jesus is our true temple.
Help us to always pray in Jesus' name.
In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
